Why Being a Beginner Again Can Change How You Lead

Being a beginner on purpose can wake your brain up. This week, I started an online bootcamp on building AI agents with absolutely no background in the subject. I don't know what I'm doing, and I'm having the time of my life.

Why does learning something new feel so good?

I'm asking questions I haven't asked in years. The "wait, what?" kind. The "can you say that again slowly?" kind. There's something about being a total beginner that gets you off autopilot.

When was the last time you felt that? Not the "I'm learning new property management software" kind of learning. The kind where you're so far outside what you know that your brain has to build new pathways just to keep up.

Can being the expert become a trap?

We get comfortable being the person with the answers. We've been doing this long enough to know how things work. That comfort is earned. It's also a trap if you let it become your whole identity.

The most alive I've felt in months is sitting at my desk with no idea what I'm doing and being completely fine with it. I think we forget how good that feels.

Go be bad at something

Here's my challenge: go be bad at something on purpose. Sign up for the class. Try the skill. Start the project that has nothing to do with what you're already good at. Your brain will thank you.
